The success of Inner City Advisors lies firmly in its team of Portfolio Advisors. Portfolio Advisors have a passion to make a significant contribution to the continued growth of inner city business and provide high caliber advice to our companies. Portfolio Advisors work with ICA Portfolio Companies on a regular basis throughout the year to meet the goals of the company’s workplan. Portfolio Advisors act as key advisors to the Portfolio Company during the length of their engagement and offer high caliber advice to promote the growth of the business. Each of our Portfolio Advisors, share the three C’s of high caliber Advising: competence, commitment and compassion:
Competence
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in area of expertise
- Provide high caliber advice that: adds value, is actionable delivered efficiently, rooted in experience, strategic and results oriented
- Ability to make assessments and provide and tactical solutions when needed
- Provide 3 references who can speak on behalf entrepreneurial or business management qualifications and success
Commitment
- Available to work approximately 2-5 hours/month over 12 months
- Prepared to “roll up sleeves” and help guide the entrepreneur to succeed
- Passionate toward contributing to the growth of inner city businesses
Compassion
- Empathetic towards the needs of the entrepreneur
- Positive touch in delivering advice
- Sensitive to level of understanding of the entrepreneur and able to effectively communicate to various levels of business acumen
ICA Portfolio Advisor Due-Diligence Process
Step 1:
Complete Advisor application and resume and submit to ICA for review
Step 2:
Program Manager will set up an in-person meeting to see if it’s a good fit
Step 3:
Email introduction to Portfolio Manager
Step 4:
ICA will provide feedback and evaluation at 1st meeting with Portfolio Company

We offer a number of roles to get involved with ICA based on one’s qualifications and time commitment. Below are a list of activities and roles where one can participate:
Portfolio Advisor
Portfolio Advisors work with ICA Portfolio Companies on a regular basis throughout the year to meet the goals of the company’s workplan. Portfolio Advisors act as key advisors to the Portfolio Company during the length of their engagement and offer high caliber advice to promote the growth of the business.
Professional Service Provider
Professional Service Providers (PSP) offer value-add services at a substantially reduced rate to ICA Portfolio Companies when the need is beyond the scope of what ICA Portfolio Advisors can provide. PSP’s often work in real-estate, accounting, legal transactions, IT, tax incentives, and accessing capital.
Presenter for Executive Education Workshops
Educational presenters present at the educational forums hosted by Inner City Advisors on various business topics. Presenters will be seasoned business owners or experts in their field. Presentations offer tangible skill for business owners to improve their business in a particular area.
Advisor to non-profit, Inner City Advisors
Work with ICA staff to help advise the non-profit in your area of expertise. As we improve as a non-profit, we are better able to assist our Portfolio Companies
